“Showcomotion is about networking with like-minded people in an atmosphere of learning. There couldn’t be a better way to develop new ideas and build new relationships in these difficult times...” Julian Scott, Head of Children’s Programming Coolabi plc and Chair of the BAFTA Children’s Committee

The annual Showcomotion Children’s Media Conference returns for the sixth time from 1st – 3rd July 2009.

Once again it promises a unique approach – bringing together all sectors of the entertainment and information industries focused on the children’s and youth audience, to explore comparative thinking, develop new business partnerships and build new creative opportunities – always taking into account the new ways in which kids access media and use technology.

Last year’s conference represented a complete cross-section of the kids’ media scene, with a record 384 registered delegates and over 80 speakers from practically every sector, including TV, games, toys, interactive media, licensing, publishing, marketing, research and academia.

2009 – a year of new initiatives
Showcomotion will see expansion in 2009, both in the July Conference in Sheffield and in a range of “outreach” events which will allow a wider audience to experience the unique Showcomotion style.

To keep up with these new developments we’ve created a new, enhanced Showcomotion e-bulletin. If you’re not registered yet – sign up at the foot of this page.

At the Conference itself, there will be a new emphasis on networking, with better spaces, more time, and assistance to arrange meetings and informal discussions. The Showcomotion Online Network will be available from May for all delegates to set up their profiles and contact information and make contact to arrange meetings at the conference itself.   Content will also be expanded with practical workshops on cross-media working and international co-production.

The Conference theme, speakers and content are detailed here, with the full programme available from late May.

And don’t forget, Showcomotion prides itself on being built by the industry for the industry – and at this time of year we need your help to build a better than ever conference.  We’re actively seeking sponsors, volunteer producers and other volunteers to help us run another great year at Showco –

I hope we see you there!

CONFERENCE THEME ANNOUNCED:  “CONNECT”

The 2009 Showcomotion conference theme says it all in one word.  This year Showcomotion will explore how industry sectors are coming together to build new partnerships and collaborations, how producers, writers and developers need more than ever to understand  their audiences, and how new sources of funding, reflecting kids’ new approaches to platforms and content are vital in these difficult times.

It’s vital for you and your business to connect – Showco will show you how.  And our new networking emphasis will connect you directly to the people you need to meet.

And on the opening evening of the Conference CONNECT WITH PETER SALMON.  The new Director of BBC North in discussion with Richard Bacon on the future of BBC Children’s in their new Salford home, and the future of kids media in the UK in general. The conference opens with this keynote event at 6pm on Wednesday July 1st ’09.
